  • NOLA BREAKS: Limited Edition 7" Colored Vinyl
    Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Two essential tracks from the NOLA BREAKS CD featuring the New Orleans Funk divas Mary Jane Hooper and Inell Young. Professor Shorthair aka DJ Yamin gives them the royal boom bap treatment that's geared for DJ's and record enthusiasts alike.

The record is pressed on purple colored vinyl and has a yellow label (think Mardi Gras).

A little history on the artists/tracks:

New Orleans funk diva Sena Fletcher aka Mary Jane Hooper released "I've Got Reasons" for Eddie Bo's Power Pac record label in 1968. Hooper essentially disappeared from recording music after 1970. Her voice is strong and beautiful and I wanted to put a Hip Hop twist on an already amazing song.

Supposedly Inell Young wrote "What do you see in her" as a response to famed NOLA producer Eddie Bo. He continued to record with Mary Jane Hooper but refused to work with Young until she became clean from heroin. Young supposedly died soon after recording this song, although it's not clear if it was accidental or on purpose.

Musically, the song is seriously funky while melancholic at the same time. I spruced up the beats and added some tongue in cheek cuts.
